MISCELLANY

Friendship, love, break-up, bonding, jealousy, anxiety, anger, heartbreak, impatience- one goes through all of these when they are my age. I did too. I will be turning 20 this year. In the last few years I have experienced a lot of new things, new feelings, new situations and new responsibilities. And I did learn a lot. I have learnt to never regret anything, I have learnt to accept everything and everyone the way they are, I have learnt to love someone without expectations and most importantly, I have learnt to be truthful. By being truthful I mean being truthful to oneself. There are situations in life where we console ourselves by lying-by not accepting the truth. When we don’t want the world to know something about us, we make ourselves believe that it never existed. As I said earlier, we just need to accept things the way they are. Following here, I will be telling you four short stories. Four Stories which will be reflecting four most important part of ones life, espec...

FOOD-O-HOLIC

It was zombie’s birthday and all of us were meeting after really long. After school got over, everyone had been busy with their college life and work. Planning a venue and budget for any of our parties had been a big deal for our group. With certainly no plans in head we were out the next day with the minimum of pocket money we had, we anyway had zombie-the party host, to pay the bill. Our group had always had this special connection to food, we were called- Foodoholic in our school days. We had been to Churchill in Colaba,  I’d heard that the place was really good at its taste. There, we met a couple of foreigners who were researching on the local food in India. One of them Andrey Stoyan was from Russia and could speak better English than his partner. It was just about half an hour and we all seemed to be really getting along well. In the meantime Andrey showed me one of his recent blogs. “It seems visiting India has given the highest of profit to my taste buds. I ha...

DEVELOPING AHEAD

It was this morning when I was travelling to my college and I saw a gentlemen sitting opposite me reading a newspaper with the front page headline reading “ St. Andrews’ suspends professor following molestation charges “. In the current scenario, a rape case being published in a newspaper has become almost as common as matrimonial advertisements. According to the National Crime Records Bureau, 24,206 rape cases have been filed in 2011 with Delhi being the “Rape Capital” of India. Speaking about Delhi and rape cases one can never miss out the 16 December, 2012 Delhi rape case which attracted the maximum amount of attention and has been acclaimed as one of the most brutal rape cases of all time in India. A 23 year old female physiotherapist intern was beaten and gang-raped in a bus when she was travelling with a male companion at 9:30 PM. The rape case involved 5 men present in the bus including the bus driver and a 17 year old juvenile who is said to have brutally raped her twic...

BOMBAY TALKIES

Extended holidays, Boring job, no girlfriend to chit chat with all through the night, busy friends had all given me enough reasons for me wanting to desperately go out, may be for a movie. Why Bombay Talkies? ZOYA AKHTAR, the amalgamation of four film makers, interesting trailer with an awesome background score, and the fact that the movie seemed to be dealing with intense socio-personal issues. Though I am not seated in any echelon to advertise my critique, these are just my views and a take on the movie as a whole and the four individual short stories. KARAN JOHAR:  AJEEB DASTAN HAI YE. The movie starts with Saqib Salem hitting his father onto the wall and screaming, “Mai chakka nahi hoon” which gives a kick start and raises your bar of expectations. The movie is about a gay man who enters the life of a married couple. The three protagonists of this movie played by Rani Mukherjee, Randeep Hooda and Saqib Salem are excellent and real. The movie is iced wi...

MID-DAY COFFEE

It was a sunny morning. I pretended to be asleep even though I was awake all night, wondering about things, which I usually don’t do, or at least have not been doing for some time now. The bars in the window were managing to save me some little sleep in the moving train, but did not do much of help. I was returning from Goa. It was a small trip which my work colleagues had compelled me to come. It was March 5, 1999, I assumed to be the highest point in my life when I was appointed as the chief editor for the Times of India. That was 7 years and 2 months after I got married to my beloved. The seven years I mentioned were too tough on my part and the people around me. I seemed to have been assaulted mentally, personally and socially. I was unemployed for all those seven years. My family- me and my wife, ate with my wife’s monthly earnings. May be it were those seven rugged years which made me what I am now, and what I became. I was never like this before, so indifferent...
